InetSoft Offers Report Writers and Developers Increased Options and Flexibility

Piscataway, NJ - June 28, 2001 - InetSoft Technology has introduced a new standard for web reporting software with the release of version 4.1 of Style Report™ Enterprise Edition. The new release includes an easy-to-use web-based administration interface, a new tabular-based report layout, and the introduction of the concept of a sub-report; all of which prove to make the reporting process simpler, more flexible, and much easier to administer.

The web based administration component demonstrates how Style Report has become much easier for people to use with its intuitive, fully configurable interface. The powerful front-end gives users the option of automatically setting up RMI, CORBA, and local report repositories with the option of clustering; this greatly reduces the administrative cost of setting up such a reporting system. In addition, the graphical interface provides a vehicle by which to start and stop the various services associated with such systems. The portability of such a system is of great advantage to administrators, who can now manage their entire reporting system via the internet. They no longer have to start or stop scheduling services, assign report permissions, change the layout styles of reports and presentations, view the log files, etc. from the server machine itself, as it can all be done on the web.

The tabular-based report layout is yet another one of Style Report's major new features. While it is a departure from the typical flow-based reporting model, Style Report users now have the flexibility to experience the best of both worlds. Report writers will be able to choose between the traditional flow based model and the new tabular layout. The tabular layout uses logic similar to that of an HTML page. The report can be broken down into individual cells and report elements can be added to these cells. This method differs from the traditional flow-based model in that cells grow to fit their content instead of flowing from one area to the next. Certain reports call for exactly this type of application and layout model, which proves not only to enhance report generation capabilities but also to complement the customary flow-based model.

Additionally, in keeping with InetSoft's theme of flexibility and ease of use, the concept of a sub-report has been introduced. This enhancement has been added in the visual report layout tool, the Designer. This tool allows users the capability of binding a sub-report into section bands of an original report. Not only does this function provide users with a simplistic approach to creating nested types of reports, it also takes advantage of the ability to maximize database query efficiency. The user now has the ability to pass parameters from the original band into the sub-report that is created.

The release of Style Report EE version 4.1 proves to be a sure hit with developers, report writers, and administrators alike. With the addition of the new web-based administration GUI and the introduction of the tabular based layout and sub-report functionality, Style Report once again distinguishes itself from the competition. This new release offers report writers and developers increased options and flexibility, while decreasing the time required to create the reports. Similarly, the necessary administrative overhead has been cut drastically, allowing for remote administration of the entire system. Style Report presents expert users with a better solution, and also gives novice users the simplicity they need to get acquainted with the software.
