A top theme found in the research on the use of business intelligence (BI) is that most organizations are trying to enable business managers to be more self-sufficient in their use of BI. An example of one finding is that companies are facing the twin pressures of growing data volumes and shorter reaction times.
"The number one strategy to achieve a more agile BI solution is clearly to enable business users to be more self-sufficient in their use of BI," said David White, senior research analyst, Aberdeen Group. "Sixty-four percent (64%) of all survey respondents are heading down that path. That often requires a change in organizational culture to empower business managers to make decisions, as well as analytical skills and training to be pushed down to the line of business. Once that foundation is in place, the right tools are required to let business users explore data interactively so that they no longer need to bombard IT with change requests each time they want to see something new or different."
