Visual Discovery Scenario - We’re going to now continue with this visual discovery scenario. The question would be maybe these people have given to you back in time and haven’t given recently, so maybe we should look at the giving history. I think that’s a great idea. To do that, we click on the giving history page. Now this page is actually tied to historical transactions. Every person who’s been a donor will have had a 100 or 1,000 transactions so this off of a different table, but it’s linked so the 1,567 people we have selected are now showing their gifts overtime from 1987 up to 2011. It’s actually a good story for this group, with many of them giving three million a year roughly in the mid-90s. It’s now up to the five, six million a year range. That’s good news for this group. You know that’s definitely a group worth taking a little deeper dive on. Let’s try to get a better feel for who they are and how they’re giving and whether or not they should get the more of our attention...

Visual Software - Make multi-dimensional charts even more information-rich thanks to new coloring, shape, and sizing options that, for instance, turn a 3D bubble chart into a 4D or 5D chart. Create multi-charts (aka trellis graphs, visual crosstab, or small multiples). Use brushing techniques where by selecting data points in one chart highlights corresponding data points in accompanying charts. InetSoft's Style Scope is easy to use, interactive Visual Software that includes real time dashboard reporting capabilities. It is an edition of Style Intelligence that focuses on business data exploration by combining Data Block technology with visualization. InetSoft's unique Data Block technology enables data mashup in a Lego-like block fashion...

Visualization Software and Dashboards for OLAP Databases - InetSoft's dashboard and data visualization software can access many of the popular OLAP databases such as Oracle Hyperion Essbase, Oracle OLAP, MS Analysis Server, and SAP NetWeaver BW. In addition to accessing a single OLAP server for advanced dashboarding and analytics, InetSoft's powerful data mashup engine allows for combining and manipulating data with other data types (see All Data Sources for others), saving on additional ETL efforts. With a small-footprint server, agile data access, and intuitive design tools, InetSoft's Style Intelligence delivers the IT-friendliest database reporting tools for user-friendly self-service business intelligence...

Visualization Software - InetSoft CEO Luke Liang is interviewed about the company's innovations in visualization tools and the introduction of Web 2.0 and Flash technologies to business intelligence software. Luke Liang (CEO, InetSoft Technology): Yes. The Flash technology we began to use a couple of years ago in our ad hoc reporting tools on the enterprise reporting side, and we found that to be very flexible, and that is enables the delivery of desktop quality business intelligence applications. So we expanded the use of this interface. You can see how flexible it is. The analytic application looks like a spreadsheet. You can do a lot of the same things you can do on a spreadsheet, but it’s a Web application. It’s really amazing...

Visualizing Software - Visualizing software can capture data in any field, organize it, present it, and allow for thorough analysis. Data are the building blocks of any company. Data is seen in every field from bar codes in retail stores to users in online gaming. Know matter where you are gathering your data from, it is meaningless without a way to organize and present it. Visualizing software helps bring those boring rows and columns to life. You are able to more effectively ask and answer important questions such as "How much has our revenue increased over the last quarter," "What percentage of our customers are shopping online," and "What is driving growth?" This ability to answers these very important questions turns your data into a competitive advantage instead of an underutilized asset...

Visualization Techniques for Business Applications - Here is another question. Other than sales what other kind of business applications could you use that kind of visualization technique for? If we go back to this visualization, these kinds of problems occur in a variety of industries. We could give examples in health care where we’re doing a bunch of work on claims analysis outlier detection. We’re also doing a lot of work in clinical and financial analysis. In medical radiation oncology claims the issue there is you get a lot of data. One example is wait times, what is driving higher wait times. Another what would be referrals analysis on physician revenue. Who is bringing in the most referring revenue and which types of patients are they? And we’re doing work in financial services and retail banking on promotions and customer loyalty. We’re doing a bunch of work in human resources looking at teams of people and workforce skills and pay versus performance. Those kinds of things would be combinations of portfolio analysis and outlier detection. I could keep going, but I think that this kind of technology fits into all of these kinds of problems. These problems are generally departmental level. While an enterprise might doesn’t do this type of visual analysis, usually it’s the department that has the specific problem to solve...

Visualization Technology Demonstration - This kind of visualization technology is a lot like Tableau, isn’t it? Byron Igoe (BI): Well, we definitely read the same books. Essentially, the charting and visualization concepts are all based on the same data visualization work. Continuing the demo, notice how any of the customizations of the chart or the filtering can be saved as a bookmark. This only saves those customizations and settings, not the data. So whenever I open a bookmark, I am getting fresh data. Now I am just going to run through a few little example bookmarks that have already been saved here. Here are some flexible pie charts that also use the radius...

Visualization Tools - InetSoft CEO Luke Liang discusses the evolution of its reporting tools into visualization tools and the many applications of them, such as monitoring dashboards, analytic dashboards, and data exploration. Our BI platform is exactly as you described there. The open standards aspect is very important to us since it allows our customers to integrate our technology more easily and leverage assets they already have, in terms of hardware and software and IT skills. So based on this BI platform, our software delivers a host of front-end BI tools including visualization tools, enterprise reporting, monitoring dashboards, and analysis. Those functions were based on a very powerful patent-pending technology we call Data Block...
