BI Documentation - The documentation set includes eleven different Guides covering the categories of Data, Reports, Dashboards, End-User, and Administration. The documentation roadmap below lists the available Guides, and the following sections provide an overview of their contents. Data Modeler describes the Data Modeler, a professional desktop tool for connecting to data sources and designing queries, data models, and VPMs. The Data Modeler provides the data access foundation for all Style Intelligence tools. Data objects designed in Data Modeler can be used directly in reports, or serve as atomic building blocks for Worksheet Data BlockTM technology. Data Worksheet describes Data Worksheets, the Style Intelligence user interface for dynamic Data Block technology. This technology allows IT professionals and power users assemble data objects in a Lego-like fashion in real time. Data Worksheets are available through both the desktop Asset Composer and the web-based Visual Composer. Report Designer describes the Report Designer, a desktop application designed to let professionals develop production reports and dashboard elements. Report Scripting describes the scripting environment provided by Report Designer. Scripting can be used for simple formulas or full ECMAScript/JavaScript programming...

BI For ERP Applications - A transcript of InetSoft's webinar for the Style Intelligence 10.2 release. Discusses the addition of new third party enterprise application data sources. Obviously this might be advantageous to people have one of these applications in their organization and for a long time we’ve been focused on giving lots of access to open standards based data access, but now we’ve begun to broaden our access to third party proprietary applications data storers. The first of these was back in ’08 when we added access to salesforce.com but now with this release you can see the new big applications like Siebel, JD Edwards, PeopleSoft, and SAP. With that we’ll head to the next slide and talk a little about data grid cache...

BI Industry Developments - So definitely there have been some shakeups in the BI environment with some big acquisitions happening. This consolidation has been pending and predicted for some time. So in some ways, I am glad to see it happen, because some enterprises were sitting on the fence waiting to see what would happen before they settled on their BI vendor evaluation list. Clearly these financial transactions highlight the value of BI and the strategic importance of BI for businesses. The backdrop of a maturing economy and the notion of competing on analytics, this is becoming a reality for enterprises. The role that business intelligence and analytics continues to grow. This bodes well for BI and data warehousing sectors, which of course, InetSoft is a part of. We’re really excited from our vantage point looking out as to what is happening in the BI market and the relevance of our product and value proposition in that backdrop. So I think these are very exciting times. I’d also point out that it’s the smaller, entrepreneurial companies like InetSoft that will continue to drive innovation, and there are many organizations who seek out this type of innovating technology...

BI Installation - The InetSoft JAR files must be added to the system classpath in order to run the software. The editions and their corresponding JAR files are as follows. During this chapter we provided a description of the tools available in the different product packages. This was followed by a discussion of the object oriented design patterns used in Style Intelligence, particularly how the Model-View-Controller design pattern is implemented. We described how Style Intelligence includes a number of adapters, which are used to wrap an object so that it conforms to the predefined API. The decorator design pattern is a powerful way to add or modify the attributes of an object. The factory design pattern is used by InetSoft products to provide platform and JDK version independent ways to create certain types of objects. The builder design pattern is used in Style Intelligence for importing and exporting reports to and from external formats. A singleton is a type of object that always has one instance in every Java virtual machine where the object shares the same instance across a single process. We discussed the class and package structure in Style Intelligence, briefly describing the major classes and API conventions. We described that a report is made up of a number of different types of report elements laid out in a sequence. We also discussed installation and deployment issues...

BI Products from the Leading BI Vendors - Yeah, that’s great. I mean we are finding that with self-service BI, the BI products from the leading BI vendors, they simplified their developing environment to the point that just about anybody can create a report, but again it’s the data behind that that becomes still more challenging so, I like what you are saying there, you are providing the data layer there, hopefully with some semantics over it, so that just about any user can make sense of it. Eric Kavanagh: Well, the IT department then can start also putting in the appropriate amount of security and governance with regards to who can access what from the standpoint that we just don’t want people spending star queries on their data sources to bring an operational system down. So the IT department can create these views, put the security in place, and put the governance in place with regards to the proper data flow to those systems, and really can deliver high value without a lot of cost in operational overhead. Philip Russom: That’s great. You know for lot of people there, for lot of users, their definition of self-service BI is that they are just going to go rogue, and they are going to use some SQL to hack their way into some systems or use Microsoft Access etc., and create something that uncontrolled, poor quality, and could even violate governance policy. So yeah, I like what you are saying that IT would involved with the IT compliance...
