Hospital Business Decision Support System - For the hospital business decision support system, the data came to us from Oracle. Originally we had a PM project product, and we purchased that product to support decision support. However the users throughout the systems, all the financial analysts and analysts and management wanted to have data that they can use InetSoft on top of. Management had decided to put the data into Vertica and put InetSoft on top. My team has integrated data from 38 large tables combining 800 columns into one huge integrated table with millions and millions of rows and our users today just put InetSoft right on top of it. The performance is very well received. I am talking about seconds not minutes. If we have some complicated report that generates for 19 seconds, it will break our heart, because it against everything we believe. To use this technology for this particular business intelligence project is really complicated. At first we used SQL and Microsoft SSAS, but it didn't work. We used InetSoft, and it worked. We had a question: how do we integrate large tables together not summarized but in detail format in a table with 800 columns and hundreds of millions rows and InetSoft on top. My team worked together, and we utilized technology that Vertica has...

How Analytical Dashboards Help Situation Awareness - Analytical dashboards are powerful tools that help organizations gain a comprehensive understanding of their performance, operations, and market conditions. They provide a single source of truth for critical information, and allow decision makers to quickly and easily identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for improvement. One of the most important benefits of analytical dashboards is their ability to enhance situation awareness. Situation awareness refers to the perception of the environment, identification of patterns and trends, and projection of future events. It is a critical aspect of decision making, as it allows individuals and organizations to anticipate and respond to changes in real-time. In today's fast-paced and complex business environment, having an accurate understanding of the situation is essential for success. Analytical dashboards provide a visual representation of data, making it easier to understand complex information and identify trends and patterns. This is especially useful for large organizations, where data is often siloed and difficult to access. By bringing all relevant data together in one place, analytical dashboards provide a holistic view of operations, enabling decision makers to identify trends and patterns that would otherwise be overlooked...

This information guides the selection of appropriate investment products and strategies that align with the client's risk tolerance...

How to Boost BI Dashboard Performance - The best method for boosting Dashboard performance is to create a materialized view. A materialized view is a caching strategy that pre-aggregates and stores the data required by a Dashboard so that the Dashboard can respond more quickly at runtime. When a materialized view exists for a Dashboard, the server attempts to query the cached materialized view rather than querying the database. This can significantly reduce the run time for certain queries, which increases Dashboard responsiveness. Note: Only users who have administrator privileges can change server settings. The following sections provide a quick description of how to create and manage materialized views. For complete information, see Materialized Views in Advanced Topics...

How Companies Are Using Dashboards - One interesting application of dashboards is displaying them on wall-mounted LCD’s such as in company lobbies or other private areas that employees walk by a lot. They really can draw attention to the KPIs that matter to a company and keep people focused on doing things that affect them. So they are not just seen on the desktop any more. Some companies project their KPI on the wall in a prominent location. There are also some interesting productivity enhancing applications for dashboards. Take for instance, in hospitals, you have wall-mounted dashboard displays showing the status of cleaned rooms in the ER, because they have such a high pressure to turn rooms around to get next productivity. These applications reflect the idea that the purpose of dashboards is not technology-drive, it’s adoption-driven. What gets look at, gets attention. It’s as simple as that. It’s a natural outcome to see improvements in these metrics. No matter what you tracking, what context it is, whether it’s a warehouse or a factory, you start seeing improvement by the people are responsible for the job the operation level. They realize what they are doing has direct impact on that metric that they see displayed on the wall each day. It speaks to the internal competitive drive people have and how much they enjoy scorekeeping and seeing the results of their efforts. The more public, the better...

How Dashboards Are Used In Healthcare - A dashboard can be described as a business tool that is used to keep a check and track on Key Performance Index (KPI's), data, or other important, relevant points to business, process or a department. Critical Need for Dashboards in Healthcare Industries What we need to understand is the definition of business dashboards is different as it plays distinct roles in different industries. How To Develop Scorecards and Dashboards - Is there a good strategy for how to develop scorecards and dashboards? I am a huge believer in the incremental approach. You can start by understanding the vision and work on version 1 of the primary scorecard or dashboard. Deploy that to a hundred people. Then see what can be improved. Then roll out version 2 to the remaining thousands of people. So implementing an incremental approach to rolling out dashboards and learning from users along the away, that’s definitely the way you want to approach to a BI project. Whenever you apply a threshold and best practice to whatever performance data you are looking at, that’s a scorecard. For example, in healthcare, the government administration is setting what are the thresholds for how a hospital qualifies to get future business from Medicaid or Medicare. They have to have a certain level of infection rate, customer satisfaction, and quality of care. Once you apply to those mandates to your data, that’s a scorecard. So it’s a matter of context. You are measuring something and comparing to a particular corporate goal or benchmark. That’s really what a scorecard is. Quite honestly, the hardest part to make the scorecard is really finding what those KPIs are, not designing one. That’s the real challenge...

You may choose to utilize a specific dashboard tool or have a custom-built dashboard, depending on the needs of your project. Google Data Studio, Tableau, Power BI, InetSoft, and D3.js are a few of the well-liked dashboard technologies. Each of these programs has different features and functionalities, so you should choose the one that best suits your demands.

How Do I Make a User-friendly Dashboard? - If you've ever built a dashboard, you know how much work it can be. It's not just about getting your data in the right place and displaying it in an attractive way. It's also about making sure that what you're showing is easy to understand. The last thing anyone wants is for them to spend an hour trying to figure out what's going on with their dashboard before they can even begin using it properly! That's why we are going to share some tips and tricks on how we make user-friendly dashboards. Big, bold data One of the best ways to make a user-friendly dashboard is to use big and bold data. This can be done in many different ways: Use icons and other visual cues (like colors) to highlight important points of data. Use charts to show comparisons between two or more sets of numbers. For example, if you have sales numbers for each month and want your users to know which months had higher sales than others, you could use a graph with two sets of bars representing each month's total sales value across all products sold during that time period. Tables are useful because they allow people who aren't familiar with Excel spreadsheets or databases. They're also great for showing relationships between different pieces of information using rows & columns instead of just lines connecting them together like graphs do (which isn't always helpful)...

Industry Templates For Dashboards - Are there templates for dashboards for a given industry? So it can be helpful to look at examples of ones that companies in your industry have created. So we try to share examples like that. It makes it easier to adopt. Another point about dashboard templates is that sometimes you want to have fairly rigid templates that people use, where they don’t have the data mashup capability, for instance. Let’s say you have a few thousand sales people. You want to have the same dashboard for each of them. You have to standardize on certain KPI, so everybody is going to see the same thing, and they can talk the same language. That’s not to say the dashboard is frozen over time. It can be refined, but the changes would be the same for everyone. Another example is in a hospital, where you have many physicians. You don’t want a customized dashboard for each physician. You don’t want them to be playing with their dashboard. It’s the roles like business analysts, CFOs, marketing VPs, or financial analysis who absolutely do not want to live with just a single template, and they need data mashup capabilities...
